How to survive in a black hole

Longest road, shortest road, free fall, singularity, dead, dead, dead. In case I ever get into the situation, this information will allow me to make the best out of my black hole experience. Hey, I might even move my space craft's furniture into position and put on a suit. I wonder what happened to the good old «you-get-spaghetti-fied» effect. Physicists ...

Nostalgia

As my UCL account is going to expire soon and I was using IMAP throughout the last three years, I thought I'd download all my emails. And there you go, I kept emails from first and second year. Some of which concern my course choices for second year [1] and a couple are about a job application as a «fly helper» (sorting Drosophila). The good old times.

[1] Yes Chris, I was probably the most annoying (some may also call it eager or enthusiastic) student you've met in years, haha.

Ruminations about exam papers

Today I finished my third exam this year for the course having the nice title «Biochemistry of Health and Disease». For the convenience (or not) of students the course was quasi split into two half course units; one half about cardiovascular disease and the other about cancer biology (some information about Prions was interspersed). Obviously this is quite a workload, especially if you don't simply want to scratch the surface, as most lectures did.

What upset me was the exam format. Theoretically (which was also clear from past exam papers), it would have been able to complete the exam with only revising half the course content (i.e. either CVD or cancer biology). In my opinion, this is the wrong way to set an exam, as it only encourages students to leave out half the content, or in my case confronts them with the dilemma of wanting to achieve good marks and having a thorough knowledge of the whole course content.

The European «Song» Contest

Despite my deep revision phase, I had to point out the following:

Serbia Hiro

Any similarities are pure coincidence and I of course fully approve of the European «Song» Contest - the British moderator was ace!

Save the cheerleader, save the world! Oh, Serbia won. And it's a woman [1], by the way.

[1] I think. The male moderator didn't kiss her.

Addendum: The only song I considered worthwile winning was Roger Cicero's «Frauen regier'n die Welt» (women rule the world), but I'm generally a fan of his music [2]. Apparently, there's an English album out as well, which I haven't listened to yet.

Roger Cicero

[2] Jazz and swing combined with an outstanding (German) voice. On the contrary to his Eurovision song, one of his other albums is called «Männersachen», which casually translated means «men's business».

(Sob) That's exactly what happens when you leave your room for efficient revision (Remember, I'm living in the dark ages). The window-cleaners leave your desk in a layer of dirt AND they steal your preciousssss RedBull can off the roof. It was shiny, we needed it, we wanted it! We musssssst get it back!
